AFLA White Papers: A Content-Rich Resource The collection of authoritative reports and guides offers AFLA members a valuable beneft. Covering a wide range of industry-specifc topics, the series provides an online "textbook" library. D elivered by industry experts, the White Paper topics run the gamut of feet management issues — from why reimbursement doesn't work to how to remarket out-of-service vehicles. Taken together, the Automotive Fleet & Leasing Association (AFLA) White Paper Series form an established, but everexpanding online library of content-rich "textbooks," according to Mark Petersen, AFLA education chair. Te series of authoritative reports and industry guides partner with other AFLA member resources — videos-on-demand, webinars, archived teleconferences, social media, etc. — in meeting the Association's foundational mission: to address key issues facing the feet industry and deliver leadingedge materials and programs. 30-Plus Papers Available to AFLA Members Established in 2007, the White Paper Series now ofers more than 30 individual online publications, ranging in length from three to 17 pages. Each can be searched for keywords, can be downloaded, or shared via e-mail. "Some are how-to guides just a few pages long, while others tackle the history of an issue or a complex topic in much longer length," said Petersen, a 29-year feet industry veteran and senior sales executive for the remarketing frm Hourglass Management/Flexco Fleet Services. Te frst AFLA White Paper was an eight-page perspective of the "State of Commercial Fleet Management Market in 2007" PETERSEN by Automotive Fleet Edi36 tor and former AFLA President Mike ke Antich. Te latest, just posted in April, il, is the 13-page guide entitled, "Trafffc Violations: How Fleets Can Preepare," provided by American Trafffc Solutions. Te Education Committee chooses topics based on current industry y issues and subject relevance; conference seminars and speakers are sources, as well as suggestions from AFLA members. "Te authors are the subjectmatter experts," Petersen noted. "AFLA's Commercial Fleet Manager Sounding Board also provides papers for the series." A quick review of White Paper topics will fnd such subjects as personal use charges, fuel expense-saving tips, reimbursement costs, risks posed by distracted drivers, i fxed versus foating fnancial rates, and green feet practices. Professional Quality, NonCommercial Coverage Featured Authors are given few restrictions and are asked simply to cover a subject from their industry perspective, Petersen said. Commercial content, however, is not allowed. Once submitted, each paper is distributed to Education Committee members who edit for accuracy, clarity, and professionalism. Te AFLA staf is responsible for posting the papers on the Association's website (www.afaon Tey also handle the announcement of a new paper through a membership e-mail blast, AFLA's Facebook page, LinkedIn discussion groups, and the Association's eNewsletter, Spec Sheet. "Te AFLA staf is a key part to the success not only of such resources as the White Paper series, but also to every committee's activities. We generate the ideas, but the staf makes it happen," Petersen said. Te Education Committee plans to publish at least three White Papers per year. "We may do more, if a hot topic suddenly arises or an industry-related event creates interest," according to Petersen. "It's just a matter of keeping the series relevant and timely." ■
