MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Message from Tom Callahan "Te biggest thing that faces the leasing company, the feet administrator, the dealer, and the manufacturer is that we can't rely on the traditional ways of doing business. We have to innovate. We have to come up with new ideas. We are in an interchanging community. We have to change with the times." W ould you be surprised to learn those were the words of the keynote speaker at the frst Automotive Fleet & Leasing Association (AFLA) Conference in April 1969? For many of us, that's a conversation we could have had yesterday. Companies are facing unprecedented challenges. Not only are we looking for ways to innovate and diferentiate in a competitive marketplace, but economic factors, stakeholder demands, and supply chain interruptions put strains on resources that may already be stretched thin. For feets, gasoline price fuctuations, acquisition costs, and a mandate to improve overall feet productivity continue to be some of the most pressing issues. And, for those managing the feet, the pressure to make meaningful contributions to a company's bottom line is greater than ever. Many feet managers that I've spoken to recently are responsible for doing more than just feet. Tey still love it and have a passion for it, but they do about six other things, too. Tis year's conference, to be held Sept. 10-13, 2013, in Scottsdale, Ariz., will be focused on helping you manage your feet in these challenging times. Hearing from experts, participating in educational opportunities, and networking with your peers will provide insight that you can use as soon as you return to your ofce, as well as help you plan for the future. Te AFLA conference will make you feel connected to a larger group, and, for those who are AFLA members, connections made during the conference carry on long afer the event ends. Educational opportunities throughout the year help to keep you informed with the latest information about our industry, and provide tools to help you manage your operations efectively. And, if your company is not yet sponsoring the conference, consider doing so. By supporting AFLA, we can continue to provide these opportunities. AFLA was founded to give a voice to those from all sectors of the commercial feet industry. By collaborating and sharing ideas and information, we're stronger together, which benefts everyone.
