INDUSTRY NEWS Vice President FUEL REPORT Group Publisher, FleetGroup Sherb Brown (310) 533-2451 Retail Gasoline Prices Likely to Fade The national average gasoline price jumped from $3.47 at the start of July to nearly $3.70 per gallon in the middle of the month. Some U.S. markets, such as those in the Great Lakes region, saw prices rise past $4 per gallon. Supplies are in good shape and demand remains in balance. Prices should continue to decrease for the remainder of the fall, which is fairly standard when hurricanes don't wreak havoc on the refning sector. The U.S. switches to an easier, cheaper way to make winter spec on September 15. More refneries in Europe can meet that spec so imports of fnished gasoline are more abundant adding to strong supply. Diesel prices continue to hold steady at $3.95 per gallon. Diesel prices are likely to remain fat with heating oil season just around the corner.
